Revision history:
QP 1.20 01 Dec 93
This one was a long time in the coming (I got an Amiga--sidetracked!),
but I think all the features make it worth it.
I think I really fixed Runtime 200 error. If it still occurs, try setting
the sampling rate lower--this almost always gets rid of the error.
Added AWESOME piano roll feature! You won't see this in other players!
Added AWESOME ZIP loader--loads files straight out of *imploded* ZIP
files. I don't have any code/any clue for inflated files, so make
sure you have old PKZIP around. As of this release it will only play
the first file in the ZIP. (This features is esp. useful on CD-ROMs
with MOD .ZIPs on them.)
Volume doubler threshhold set to 6 channels. Now only "doubled" to
vol 191; 669 files are not doubled (apparantly the samples are
pre-doubled).
Can now use PgUp and PgDn to go through sequences in real time.
You can now press Enter to skip through multi-module files (this is
prelude to jukebox/wildcard support). The only place this really
works is in S3M files--try playing a FC demo and pressing Enter
to listen through the songs.
Added quality-level adjustment: You can now select a new quality
level--Poor! Poor quality will introduce serious distortion, but the
song will still be recognizable. Poor quality is good for really
really big files or little RAM. (Use it like so: "QP file.mod /Q:P"
or "QP file.mod /Q:L")
New "load screen" format. Shows SlugSoft logo on blue screen while
"Loading..." instead of title-line on DOS screen. (More prelude to
jukebox/wildcard.)
Fixed MOD loaders to handle "M!K!" files.
Fixed 669 loaders to load real file title and show comments on screen.
Fixed S3M loaders to load real instrument filenames and load comments
on the side of the screen (like 669).
Squeezed more real estate out of screen.
Added Note Cut, Note Delay, and Retrigger commands
Lots of fixes here and there to make stuff work better/faster.
QP 1.10 19 Aug 93
Added BASS amplifier for people with cruddy speakers or derranged minds
Renamed devices to make more sense: "Mono/Stereo Polled/DMA: Device Name"
Fixed intermittent Runtime 200 error (I think)
If more than 9 channels, maxs volume--solves soft-sounding multi-channel
files. (sorta)
You can now play files inside FC demos by specifying something like:
QP DEMONAME.EXE\INSIDEFILE.S3M
Tweaked code to make slightly faster
Tweaked update routines so that blobs are not shown when nothing is actually
played out speakers
QP 1.00 16 Aug 93
Initial release
Future thoughts:
Will display estimated vs. running times in next release. (honest!)
Support for 670 and JMPlayer if VangeliSTeam adds support.
Support for a few more .MOD commands.
Support finetuning really soon. (finally have DOCs on this)
Future thoughts that were scrapped:
"Might track notes on channel scores in next release."
-- Piano roll serves same purpose and note channels would be
to much of headache (may put in distant future release).
"Support for MED and OctaMED planned."
-- Got MED on my Amiga and decided this was unfeasible (MEDs use
the Amiga's synthizers, which I have no knowledge of even for
emulation).
"Look for a Workbench 3.0 AppIcon version on the Amiga in distant
future."
-- Found MultiPlayer by Brian Ford which does this and more <grin>
